Admission requirements
You can apply for the Double Master program if you have:
- a minimum three years bachelor degree in life sciences or natural sciences or related fields
- final grade of max. 2,7 (German scale)
- work and laboratory experience
- very good English language proficiency (min. Level B2)
Application deadline: 30th of September
Start of the program: 1st of March the following year
The application for the next years intake is ongoing. You can apply any time, but only online applications are accepted.
Applications are welcome even if the required degree has not been awarded by the time of application as long as it will be conferred before courses start.
Required admission documents
Documents required for the online Application Form: all documents have to be translated in English
- Official Transcript / Record of Study: Detailed documentation of your academic work (list of courses at all colleges/universities attended including the final grade and the scale)
- Proof of university graduation: bachelor’s degree (min. 3 years) (or equivalent degree in biology, biochemistry, medicine, chemistry, pharmacy or related fields) confirmed by the governmental authorities
- Proof of working experience: of min. 1 year (letter of employer stating your function, duration and detailed tasks)
- University entrance qualification: high school certificate – in English, Spanish, German or French
- APS Document: if Bachelor acquired in China, Vietnam or India

- Copy of full passport: including back and front covers and blank pages
- Copy of DNI: only for Argentinians and foreigners residing in Argentina
- 2 Reference Letters: two signed letters of two academic teachers who are able to evaluate your personality, academic experience, and intellectual merit

- Certificate of B2 level English proficiency: which can be provided by following international certificates
- Cambridge FCE: CAE (C1) and CPE (C2)
- PTE Academic: min. 59 points (Pearson Test)
- IELTS Academic: min. 5,5 points
- TOEFL Essentials: min. 5 points or TOEFL iBT (min. 72 points online, min. 567 points on paper) (only 2 years validity)
- OOPT: min. 60 points
- TOEIC: min. 785 points “listening/reading”, 160 points “speaking” and 150 points “writing”
- Telc B2-C1University
- UNIcert II or III
- Degree of an english speaking fundamental study program ( here: an offical confirmation of the examination board is necessary, confirmation of a professor is not enough) or statement on the Transcript of Records or Diploma Supplement “medium of instruction: English”.
- Official language in your country is English
- NOTE: English native speakers are exempted from presenting this certificate.
- Payment of Application Processing Fee of 30,- Euro.
Tuition fees
The tuition fee covers the teaching staff, the overall organisation, professional consulting and supervision, health insurance in Freiburg (8 months), the Spanish and German language courses, the intercultural training, three rehearsals for the master thesis defense and one rehearsal for the interims exam, the lab method training and the scientific communication training.
The tuition fees for the 2 year program will be paid monthly either to the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) or to the University of Freiburg (UFR).
Tuition and registration fees for international graduates:
900 EUR per month (for the first 16 months)
450 EUR per month (for the last 8 months – master thesis module)
110 EUR/ semester (registration fee at the University of Freiburg)
100 EUR one-time cost (administrative fee at the University of Buenos Aires)
Reduced tuition fees for Argentinian and German graduates:
450 EUR per month (for the first 16 months)
225 EUR per month (for the last 8 months – master thesis module)
Reduced tuition fees for Argentinians graduated at UBA and Germans graduated at UFR:
225 EUR per month (for the first 16 months)
112,50 EUR per months (for the last 8 months – master thesis module)
Usually DAAD scholarships may be available and are only given to the very best students.
Special scholarships for German and Argentinian graduates are available.
Cost of Living in Buenos Aires and Freiburg
You need to ensure sufficient funding to finance your living cost plus the tuition fees.
The average cost of living in Buenos Aires for one month is currently approx. 500 EUR/ p. month
- Student accommodation cost approx. 150 to 500 EUR/p. month
- Private expenses (food, transport, leisure, restaurant): 100 EUR/ month
- Health insurance must be provided by the student for the time in Argentina
The average cost of living in Freiburg for one month is currently approx. 861 EUR/ p. month (necessary for visa application)
- Student accommodation cost approx. 250 to 500 EUR/p. month
- Private expenses (food, transport, leisure…): ca. 350 EUR/ p. month
- Health insurance is available for approx. 50-100 EUR (monthly)
- Transport: A special student ticket for regional transport costs approx. 94 EUR (per semester)
Scholarship
Usually the IMBS program receives some DAAD scholarships which we assign only to the best students.
All students will be considered but only the very best students will receive a scholarship, but we cannot guarantee in advance.
