Application for the joint-degree PhD program in Biomedical Sciences
The application for the joint-degree PhD program is ongoing.
1. Step: Application for the Program
You apply at the partner University, so either at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) or at the University of Freiburg (UFR).
And you contact directly the PhD coordinator of each University by sending following documents in English:
- CV
- Passport
- Bachelor (5 years) or Master degree and transcript of records
- Preliminary thesis plan in English (max. 10 pages)
- Summary CV of your Director and supervisor

For the application at the University of Buenos Aires please contact: Prof. Dr. Martha Mollerach
Your application will be assessed as soon as possible and if you are eligible for our program you will be informed about further steps.
Steps after beeing admitted
2. Step: Registration at the Faculty (if not yet registered)
At the University of Freiburg:
The possible faculties to apply for, are: The Faculty of Biology, The Faculty of Medicine and The Faculty of Engineering.
They faculties require following documents:
- Abstract of Master thesis or Bachelor thesis (5 years of study)
- Supervision agreement = Doctoral supervision agreement/Promotionsvereinbarung
- Degree Certificate qualifying for doctoral studies = Master or Bachelor Degree (in English)
- Publications (if you have any)
At the University of Buenos Aires:
The possilbe faculties to apply for are: Faculty of Biochemistry and Farmacy and the Faculty of Medicine
The faculties require following documents: see 1. Step
3. Step: Matriculation as a PhD student at the University of Freiburg
Only after receiving the acceptance letter from your faculty you can be enrolled at the University of Freiburg.
First you can apply per Email by sending copies of your certificates and when you are on-site you need to present the original certificates.
Following original documents are needed for the matriculation in English or German:
- Highschool certificate (also acceptable in Spanish)
- Master or Bachelor Degree (if you have a 5 year Bachelor Degree)
